— Hawaiian Islands Banknote Reprints —
( prefix: SOH )
In 1995, ABNC reprinted a series of five banknotes, originally produced for the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1879. Technically "certificates of deposit," the notes were intended to circulate on the islands as legal tender; however, issued notes are unknown and only proof examples remain. Initially, each reprint was trimmed to match the banknote, increasing in size according to denomination. Some months later, the set was reissued on full cards measuring 10½" x 8½". These notes closely resemble the Republic of Hawaii notes that appear on ABNC souvenir cards of the 1980s.
