— Historic American Currency Series —
( prefix: SOC )
Another ABNC collaborative venture was the Historic American Currency series. For this series, ABNC selected six obsolete banknotes to reprint, with vignettes depicting the Revolutionary War. International Silver Co. matched the engraved designs on flat sterling silver plates. Both the silver and paper banknotes were imprinted with ABNC and IS logos, along with a serial number. The trial set (SOC-1) was produced in 1973, but it was decided to hold off marketing until closer to the American Bicentennial, so the remainder of the sets were not released until 1976.

Each complete set includes the intaglio reprint on card stock, the silver banknote, an eight-page information booklet with engraved cover, and a personalized registration certificate (also engraved) with a title transfer on the back. The info booklets and registration certificates often did not survive. The metal "banknote" is 0.75mm thick, measures 8" x 3.75", and contains 5.5 oz. of sterling silver.

American Express marketed this series exclusively to their customer base. Total production was "limited to 7500" but 2500 is a closer estimate of the number actually sold. When silver prices spiked many were sold as scrap, contributing to their scarcity and obscurity today.
