The Souvenir Card Collectors Society will issue three engraved cards for hobby shows in 2026, starting with the annual Florida United Numismatists Convention in Orlando. The souvenir cards will be intaglio printed, featuring vintage engravings designed by U.S. security printers. The card for the winter FUN convention, Jan. 8-11, will spotlight the engraved logo of the Indian River Steamboat Co., which served the east coast of Florida in the 1890s. The vignette, engraved circa 1885 by American Bank Note Co., was modeled on the Indian Head cent, then in circulation. It appeared on company letterhead and possibly bank checks. Later in January, a souvenir card for the National Stock & Bond Show will feature an aviation theme, appropriate for the event’s proximity to Washington Dulles International Airport. The card’s large vignette was specially engraved in the late 1920s, also by American Bank Note Co., for a Curtiss Aeroplane Export Corp. stock certificate. The central image features a model NC-4 Curtiss flying boat, the first aircraft to fly across the Atlantic in 1919, with a stop in the Azores. The final card of the series will be released in August at the ANA World’s Fair of Money in Pittsburgh. This card offers a reprint of a numismatic-themed allegorical vignette, engraved in 1931 by the Security Bank Note Co. Two attractive allegorical figures are presented: a female, symbolizing education and enlightenment, and a child spreading coins from a cornucopia, representing prosperity. The vignette was likely created for use on stocks or bonds in the financial industry. The cards are being printed from original steel dies by Capital City Engraving Co. in Rockville, MD, one of the few remaining firms capable of specialized intaglio die-stamping. Production is limited to 300 of each card. The three-card subscription set of souvenir cards is available by mail for $25, shipping included. Orders should be mailed, with check payable to “SCCS,” to Greg Alexander, 3081 SW River View Dr., Pendleton, OR 97801. PayPal orders are also accepted — see order form for details. |
